The California Primary Care Office (PCO) functions as the state liaison for the Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Bureau of Health Workforce. The primary function of the PCO is to determine Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA) and Medically Underserved Areas/Populations (MUA/MUP). Additionally, the PCO provides technical assistance to clinics, counties, providers, and various statewide and local organizations regarding the National Health Service Corps programs, new start and expansion grants, and other HRSA workforce programs. This 60-minute session will cover the HPSA and MUA/MUP designation process, the benefits of the HPSA and MUA/MUP designations, and the FQHC HPSA scoring process, which is essential for NHSC clinician placement.
