End of Life Option Act: Important Issues for Health Centers

This live event occurred on 10/06/2016; if you would like to purchase the recording for $75, please register below.  Once you register, please email Training@cpca.org to request copies of the materials.

California recently enacted the “End of Life Option Act,” which permits an adult with a terminal illness to receive a prescription for an aid-in-dying drug if specific conditions are met. As people react to the new law, it is important for individual clinicians to be able to respond to patients who may ask for medication under the law. It is equally important for health centers to understand and develop policies and procedures related to the law. Join us for this one-hour webinar to learn about the law, receive information about the federal law prohibiting the use of federal funds for “assisted suicide”, and receive information and template policies and procedures to help craft a policy for “opting-out” of the new law.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Attendees will gain a better understanding about the new law
  • Understand the risk to health centers if they participate
  • Develop legally sound policies and procedures if your health center chooses not to participate
  • Understanding the challenges and developing strategies for talking with patients about the end of life

Any staff involved with patients, or involved with determining a health center’s policies.
